Surfing La Nord Hossegor : Where is it exactly ?

- The actual wave of La Nord is directly in front of the plage central of Hossegor. Its the perfect spot to sit and chill on dry land with a beer at the “Rock Food” and watch the show.
- Contrary to popular belief La Nord is actually a reef break. Underneath the ocean, 200 meters from the beach is a cliff.
- The cliff is part of the spectacular abyss know as the “Gouf de Capbreton“. One of the largest on the planet, the size of the Colarado Canyon. Its drops 4 kilometers deep.
When to go Surfing La Nord ?

- Generally the summer months do not produce waves above 2 meters. The best time is from September – March, the winter months.
- Study the charts and wait for bigger swell. It needs a solid 2 meters plus to get it going. The wind needs to be offshore as well. This is not the place to surf when its messy onshore
How to go surfing La Nord ?
- Equipment ! Get a gun of minimum 8 foot, this is obligatory. Get float vest, just a simple little vest that will fit under your wetty. Its deep and the hold-downs arent as long with one on.
- Get in there early, dont wait for full low tide ,as it gets busy. Crowds increase the stress , if your new to big wave surfing. Its the same as small wave surfing, nobodies going to give you a wave, but way more critical if you get it wrong.
- Guiding. No, theres nothing to show you. Its a dry hair paddle just to the left of Plage central and after that you are on your own !
