The calm in Landes after the storm.
So the two massive storms that created havoc in the UK came to Landes and went. The first storm we did actually get a whip of its tale and received some hellish high winds and torrential rain. This produced some pretty big waves and due to the full moon coinciding the tides were equally massive thus causing some damage to the dune and the beach based businesses. We lost the end of the stairs at Messanges , but we were lucky , Vieux Bouceau got pretty smashed and a few restaurants were damaged.
Our loss however was minimal compared to the loss of life in Biarritz. Sadly a couple were swept away by a giant wave whilst watching the surf near the casino , and died.
This storm was however the warm up for the might of the swell to hit landes from hurricane Hercules. We luckily missed the savage winds and flooding that hit the UK , but we certainly didnt miss the swell. Some meteorologists say that it was the deepest low ever recorded in the Atantic , and the swell arrived here at a cool 15 meters, with Belarra being ripped and La Nord much smaller at the start of it producing some epic waves.
Now that its gone we have been left with blue skies warm weather and just super perfect banks all up and down the coast. A little slideshow of what we have been surfing today is at the top …….
